The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts is an Indian luxury hospitality group founded in 1987 by Captain C. P. Krishnan Nair,who named it after his wife. Currently The Leela - as it is commonly referred to, is a group of eight luxury palaces and hotels, located in Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore,Thiruvanathapuram, Gurgaon, Udaipur, New Delhi and Chennai. The group has opened a new hotel in Chennai (2013) and has plans to open new hotels in Coimbatore and Agra, Lake Ashtamudi (Kollam, Kerala) andJaipur. The company has marketing alliances with US-based Preferred Hotels and Resorts and is a member of Global Hotel Alliance based in Geneva, Switzerland.
In October 2013 The Leela ended its marketing alliance with Germany-based Kempinski.
